Maria Todaro’s production of The Anonymous Lover reimagines Joseph Bologne’s elegant 18th-century opera with fresh vitality and emotional depth. Centered on Léontine, a young widow courted by an unseen admirer, the story unfolds with charm, wit, and sincerity as hidden love is revealed. Todaro’s vision highlights the humanity and nuance of Bologne’s characters while celebrating his place as one of the first known Black classical composers.
