Water Memory (Jala Smriti) is a groundbreaking new chamber opera by composer Kitty Brazelton and librettist Vaibu Mohan, winners of The Atlanta Opera's 2024 96-Hour Opera Project. Commissioned by The Atlanta Opera and presented in collaboration with Georgia Tech, the work explores the intersection of memory, technology, and caregiving through an innovative fusion of live performance and immersive digital media.
Set in the near future, Water Memory follows an aging woman whose memories begin to fade as her family turns to emerging technology in an effort to preserve her identity and reconnect with her past. Inspired by research in elder care and human-centered technology, the opera incorporates real-time digital processing and interactive media developed in partnership with Georgia Tech, creating a deeply moving reflection on love, loss, memory, and what makes us human.
Experience the world premiere performance, streamed live from The Atlanta Opera's NOW Festival.
